Build Your First Custom GPT in 15 Minutes (No Code Beginner Tutorial)

Today, you’re building your very first real AI chatbot — and by the end of this video, you’ll have a Custom GPT that can answer questions, follow your instructions, and use your own knowledge files.
No coding. No stress. Just results.

If you’re new here, I’m Telley Taylor, and I make AI easy for beginners.
This is Step 2 in your chatbot journey — so if you missed blog post 1, watch it right after this.

    SECTION 1 — What You’re Building Today

You’re going to build a Custom GPT that:

    • Has its own rules
    • Knows how to behave
    • Uses your knowledge files
    • Responds professionally
    • Has a personality you choose

This will be the foundation for every chatbot you build moving forward.

SECTION 2 — Create the GPT

Step 1: Go to ‘Explore GPTs’

    Click Create a GPT.

    Step 2: Name Your GPT

    Name your bot:
➡️ Beginner AI Assistant (You can change it later)

    Step 3: Add Your Instructions

    Paste this inside:

“You are an AI assistant designed to help beginners learn chatbot building.
Follow instructions clearly, answer with simple explanations, and always ask clarifying questions when needed.”

Explain to your viewers WHY instructions matter.

    Step 4: Add Example Conversations

    Example:
User: “How do I make a chatbot?”
GPT: “There are three ways… let me walk you through the easiest one…”

    SECTION 3 — Add a Knowledge File

Now let’s make your bot smarter by giving it knowledge.”

    Steps:

    1. Upload a PDF
      • Could be: “Beginner AI Terms”, “Chatbot Glossary”, or even a simple text file
    2. Show how GPT reads the document
    3. Test questions from the PDF

Any file you upload becomes part of your chatbot’s brain.

    SECTION 4 — Customize Personality

    Examples:

    • Friendly teacher
    • Serious business assistant
    • Step-by-step guide bot
    • Motivational mentor

    Personality affects engagement.

SECTION 5 — Test the Chatbot

    Ask these test questions:

    • “Explain chatbots like I’m 10.”
    • “Give me three ideas for beginners learning AI.”
    • “Summarize the PDF I uploaded.”

    You can eefine answers using:

    • Better instructions
    • Additional examples
    • Stronger tone guidelines

    SECTION 6 — Save & Publish

See video tutorial on the following:

    • Saving
    • Who can use the GPT
    • Publishing options
    • Private vs Public access

This is your FIRST working AI chatbot. You’re officially building now.

“What AI Chatbots Can Actually Do — A Beginner’s Guide (No Code)”

Before you build your first AI chatbot, you need to understand how powerful — and how simple — this stuff really is now.

Today, I’m going to show you exactly what a chatbot can do for you, your business, or your income… even if you’ve never built anything with AI before.

Welcome! I’m Telley Taylor, and my mission is simple:
Make chatbots and AI agents accessible, practical, and beginner-friendly.

If you’ve ever wanted to build your own chatbot but thought it was too technical, too advanced, or required coding — I’m going to change that today.

SECTION 1 — What Is an AI Chatbot?

A chatbot is an AI assistant that can understand text and respond intelligently.

But today’s chatbots are more than conversation tools — they’re:

    • Customer service reps
    • Virtual assistants
    • Research agents
    • Study tutors
    • Sales reps
    • Content creators
    • Booking assistants
    • Lead generation machines

A chatbot can learn from your files, follow instructions, and perform tasks automatically.

SECTION 2 — What AI Tools Will We Use in This Channel?

On my blog, we’re going step-by-step from zero experience to building real AI systems.

And here are the tools we’ll use — all beginner-friendly:

    1. ChatGPT Custom GPTs

    • No code
    • Easy to customize
    • Perfect starting point for chatbot creation

    2. Claude Projects

    • Great for document-based bots
    • Excellent for knowledge bases

    3. Voiceflow

    • Visual builder
    • Great for structured workflows and lead gen bots

    4. Chatbase (free tier)

    • Super simple
    • Upload PDFs → instant chatbot

    5. Prompt Engineering Basics

    • The secret to making every bot smarter

And don’t worry — I’ll break all of this down step-by-step.

SECTION 3 — Where Beginners Get Stuck

Most people struggle with chatbot building because they try to learn everything at once.

But the real winning method is:

    1. Learn ONE tool
    2. Build ONE simple bot
    3. Add ONE new skill
    4. Repeat

That’s how you go from beginner to pro.

SECTION 4 — What You’ll Be Able to Build in This Series

In this tutorial series, you’ll build:

    • Customer service bots
    • Lead generation bots
    • A personal study assistant
    • A resume analyzer bot
    • A chatbot portfolio you can sell

Everything will be in a two-step build format, so each blog post connects to the next.

    SECTION 5 — What’s Next

In the very next blog post, we’re building your very first chatbot — a Custom GPT — in under 15 minutes.
It’ll be your first real AI tool, and it’ll set the foundation for everything that comes after.
